Children’s early mathematics achievement is associated with a number of success factors later in life. On February 15th, Lawrence Primary School hosted its annual Family Math Night where educators, children, and family members participated in different mathematical activities. Throughout the night, students used number sense and problem solving skills to work collaboratively on different activities.
Students worked in teams to solve mathematical problems and use number sense to identify numbers represented in different ways (using tens frames, number blocks, etc.)
Students challenged their friends and family in mathematical based board games and puzzles. Who knew math could be so fun?!
Students put the 'M' in STEAM as they used problem solving skills to create the tallest snowman using toothpicks and marshmallows. Students tracked the materials used and used mathematical reasoning to determine why their snowman was, or was not, able to stand tall.
