LAWRENCE, NEW YORK (DECEMBER 2025)—Student leaders from Lawrence High School attended a Leadership Symposium held at Carle Place High School, joining representatives from approximately twenty schools in a day dedicated to collaboration, growth, and leadership development.

The conference brought together student leaders to share ideas and engage in meaningful discussions on how to strengthen and enhance their respective school communities. The keynote address was delivered by Huntington Councilman Dr. Dave Bennardo, who inspired students with a powerful message on what true leadership is made of, emphasizing character, service, and responsibility.

Throughout the day, students participated in a variety of breakout discussion groups, allowing them to exchange perspectives and learn from peers across districts. A highlight of the symposium was Lawrence High School being selected as one of only four schools to present to the entire conference. Lawrence’s student officers proudly spoke about the rich cultural diversity within the Lawrence School District and shared how the school community actively supports, celebrates, and embraces these differences.

The symposium was attended by twenty of Lawrence High School’s top student leaders, including SGA President Meredith Maldonado, along with Eliana Perez Reyes, Corey Shakur Jr., Michela Alexander, and Joy Ayangbesan, among others. Students were escorted by David Ziff and Victoria Lohwassa, who supported and guided the group throughout the event.

The Leadership Symposium proved to be a valuable and enriching experience for all participants, leaving Lawrence’s student leaders inspired, empowered, and better equipped to continue making a positive impact within their school and community.
