Latin American Club
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, today I will focus on Julia Alvarez is an American New Formalist poet, novelist, and essayist, with family roots from the Dominican Republic, where she spent time when her family returned there for a brief period, eventually fleeing due to the political situation. The immigrant experience and bicultural identity is the subject of much of Alvarez’s fiction and poetry. Her popular first novel, How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents, was published in 1991. She has achieved critical and commercial success on an international scale and many literary critics regard her to be one of the most significant contemporary Latina writers. I would like to share one of her quotes. The quote is: "The point is not to pay back kindness but to pass it on." In the spirit of la familia and la comunidad, may this month be filled with warmth and connection as we celebrate Hispanic heritage. Thank you.
