We are proud to share that our very own art teacher, Janet Ganes, was recently highlighted in a special art exhibit at the Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center. The exhibit, titled "Lest We Forget: Stories of Hope, Resistance, and Survival Retold Through Art," opened on March 9, 2025.
Ms. Ganes, who has been teaching art at Lawrence High for nearly 30 years, created 20 pieces of artwork inspired by her mother’s escape from Nazi Germany. The exhibit also features artwork and poetry created by her students, bringing powerful stories of Holocaust survivors to life through art.
This recognition is a reflection of Ms. Ganes’ dedication to teaching her students about history through art. Her work showcases the determination of our district to create meaningful learning experiences that not only educate but also inspire. We are so proud of Ms. Ganes for being part of this important exhibit.
This exhibit will be on view at the tolerance center, located at 100 Crescent Beach Road in Glen Cove, until June 22, 2025.
