Day 3 of Black Americans you don't know but should: Claudette Colvin. I'm sure we all know who Rosa Parks is, but what we weren't taught was that Rosa wasn't the first person to protest their right to sit where they please, Mrs. Claudette Colvin was  !! When Claudette was 15, she refused to move to the back of the bus for a white person; nine months before Rosa Parks did the very same thing. On her way to school, the bus driver ordered Claudette to get up and she refused saying she paid her fare and it was her constitutional right. Two police officers put her in handcuffs and threw her out of her seat. Her school books went flying out her lap. Claudette was arrested at 15 years old for practicing her rights. Many people mistakingly believe this oppression was so long ago but Claudette is still living at 82 years old. She is now a retired nurse and lives in the Bronx, NY. What Claudette did was a big risk that was needed to get another step closer to justice for all. This moment was so terrifying. Claudette says even in her 80s, she remembers that day vividly. Brave is an understatement when speaking on thee Claudette Colvin.
