Day 1

 

Congratulations to Lawrence High School Senior Yehoshua Auerbach and Junior Bhawan Sandhu on each winning third place at the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair held yesterday at the Crest Hollow Country Club.  Yehoshua produced  a biosensor that can quickly and easily diagnose diseases such as Zika; and Bhawan created a cost effective membrane for a hydrogen fuel cell.

 

Also congratulations to Senior Kristen Dookie on making the top 25% of the fair for her work on saving terrapin turtles, an endangered species that lives on the east coast; to Senior Syed Bukhari, on her research of 3-D scaffolds for growing and testing cancer cells; and to John Chen and Zaiff Khan for creating a synthetic scaffold that can turn dental pulp stem cells into nerve cells.  We are proud of all our Lawrence research scientists. Congratulations!

 

Bowling-Advisor-Mr. Martilliotti

Congratulations to John Loughlin, who this past weekend competed at the N.Y. State H.S. Bowling Championships. John’s score every game was counted towards the Nassau County All-Stars team aggregate score.  In the 5th game of the tournament, John bowled a team high 231.  John’s consistency and spare making, helped lead the Nassau team to a 4th place finish- the highest Nassau has finished in years.  Way to go John! You made Lawrence proud!!

 

Dance Honor Society Event-Advisor-Ms. Sales

Attention Lawrence High School Students!

The Dance Honors Society is having its first St. Patty’s Pretzel Fundraiser!  We will be selling green, white and brown, vanilla/chocolate covered pretzels with sprinkles. Each bag consists of 5 big pretzel sticks for $3.00.  Find any Dance Honor Society member to purchase the bags.  If you have any questions please see a Dance Society member. Thank you!

 

Senior News – Advisor – Ms. Bayeva

Join your classmates for a fun evening of bowling to “strike up a win” tonight, 8:00 pm -10:00 pm, at Woodmere Lanes.  The cost will be $20.00 payable to Ms. Bayeva in room 121 or at the door.  This price includes shoes, 2 slices of pizza and a soda. Hope to see you there!!!

 

S.A.D.D.- Advisor – Ms. Cammarata

Next week is SADD awareness week. We will be hosting 2 events and sharing important information with you each day regarding issues that face the youth of today

Monday is our panel discussion and Thursday will be our Movie Night

S.A.D.D. will host a forum on Monday afternoon to discuss bullying, drug and alcohol abuse, teen suicide, making good decisions and how to stay safe. Please join us in room 319 immediately after school on Monday.

El club estudiantes contra las decisiones destructivas va a tener una reunión este lunes para hablar de bullying, el suicidio y los jóvenes, drogas y alcohol y otros asuntos  y cómo afecta  a nuestra comunidad escolar.    Vengan para participar. Tendrá lugar en el salón 319 inmediatamente después de las clases el lunes por la tarde.

 

Student Government News- Karin Kind

Good morning Lawrence High School! The Luck of the Irish will soon be upon us!  This Sunday, March 17th, is St. Patty’s Day. What better way to celebrate your bonny friends, teachers and staff by sending them a “Kissed by the Irish” present.  Send someone a green and white teddy bear along with a handful of Hershey’s chocolate Kisses for only $3.00 for one or two for $5.00.  Buy one fo all the lads and lassies you want this Thursday and Friday in the Main Lobby.  They’ll be delivered on today, March 15th, during homeroom! So, send a kiss to someone this week!
