Dear Lawrence High School Families, Faculty & Staff,

You might have heard rumors that a teacher has the Coronavirus and that her granddaughter has tested positive for the Coronavirus as well.  These rumors are false.

The teacher sent the text message below to students.

Good morning everyone! I don't know if you have heard yet, but I am on quarantine because of exposure to somebody who was diagnosed with the coronavirus. I do not have the coronavirus nor am I sick or have any symptoms, but as a measure of precaution, I will stay at home for another week and a half because that will be the two weeks since exposure to the infected person

So we have a double period today and in order not to waste a double period, See if you can get somebody to log on to the computer in 120 and turn on the BenQ board. There is a video on Gibbs free energy that I would like you to watch. Even though we don't have the notes for it yet because they're in one of my boxes in my room, at least if you watch the video it will give you a good introduction

I will need a day today to figure out how I can teach from at home, since we were just notified of the diagnosis last night.

The video I would like you to watch is given by "the organic chemistry tutor" and is titled "Gibbs free energy- Equilibrium  constant, enthalpy & entropy- equations and practice problems"

I don't have my notes at home. The school does not want me coming into the school to pick up my notes

They will send it home somehow

I'll figure that out but right now my concern is not for you to totally waste a double period

The teacher has reported that she was at a large gathering over the weekend and just found out that someone at that gathering has tested positive for the Coronavirus.

As a precautionary measure, the teacher has decided to self-quarantine.  She was not asked to do this by the Department of Health (DOH).  Her language “on quarantine” was misleading.  Again, the teacher has taken it upon herself to remain at home.

In addition, the District had this teacher’s room thoroughly cleaned before school opened today.

Please remember that the best way to protect yourself is to:

          1.  Wash your hands often with soap for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer.

          2.  Cough or sneeze into a tissue or your elbow (not your hand) and then throw out the tissue and wash your hands.

          3.  Stay home if you are feeling sick.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please reach out to a member of the Lawrence High School administrative team.
